The "Low Tide at Susaki" pentaptych (c. 1828-30) is a shikishiban surimono in five sheets, depicting the vast tidal flats of the Susaki peninsula at the mouth of Edo Bay when the sea retreats. Clam diggers, shorebirds, and the distant silhouette of Mount Fuji across the water populate the expansive scene, each sheet contributing a section of the panoramic whole. The luxury surimono format — heavy paper, metallic embossing, small edition — made the complete five-sheet set a prestigious collector's object.
