Omori, a village southwest of Edo on the Tokaido road, was known as a fishing and farming community on the western shore of Edo Bay. Kuniyoshi's early 1830s depiction from the Famous Places in the Eastern Capital series captures the village's coastal character — boats on the water, nets drying, the bay stretching toward the mountains. The Eastern Capital series documented a rapidly changing city and its immediate surroundings during the Tempo era, creating an invaluable urban and landscape record.
