The Quai du Miroir — the Mirror Quay — in Bruges, named for the way the still canal water mirrors the facades of the buildings along its edge. This 1919 print from the Bruges series captures one of the most poetically named of the city's canal-side streets, where the reflective surface of the water creates a doubling of the architectural world above. Urushibara's sensitivity to reflection and light on water, cultivated through years of printmaking, finds a perfect subject in this aptly named quayside.
