乗兼広人

Biography
Norikane Hiroto (乗兼広人, born 1949) is a contemporary Japanese printmaker from Hiroshima prefecture. He graduated from the Sokei Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under the printmakers Hodaka Yoshida and Kiyomi Kato — training that places him within the lineage of Japan's modern creative-print movement. Rather than the woodblock medium of the classic ukiyo-e masters, Norikane works chiefly in the intaglio techniques of etching and mezzotint, using their fine tonal gradations to depict quietly observed scenes of rural Japan and other traditional subjects. Recurring motifs in his work include farmhouses, Mount Fuji, and cats, and his 'Shōji' series is among his best-known output. He has exhibited widely, with numerous solo exhibitions abroad that have earned him an international following.
