$500–$4,000. Common prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Uchima's luminous landscape prints appeal to collectors of both Japanese prints and modern American art.
Spring Brook (1963) is a color woodblock print depicting a small stream in its vernal state — fed by snowmelt, running clear and fast over stones, bordered by the first green growth of the season. The brook in spring is a subject of movement and renewal: ice has released its grip, the water table is high, and even the smallest stream carries energy disproportionate to its size. Uchima's abstract rendering captures the brook's character through quick, flowing forms and the cool color temperature of meltwater, the woodblock technique's capacity for precise linear detail serving the subject's combination of delicacy and persistent forward motion.
