Description
An eighth untitled work by Aoyama Masaharu (1893–1969). His prints — produced in the tradition of sosaku-hanga where the artist carves and prints each work personally — bear the marks of this direct engagement at every stage: the confidence of the carving, the precision of registration, the careful control of ink density and color. These technical qualities serve the expressive aims of his compositions rather than displaying themselves for their own sake, making his work a model of how technical mastery should function in service of artistic vision.
