Rain transforms Karhu's characteristic Kyoto subjects in this undated print — the familiar tile rooftops and wooden facades now wet and reflective, the atmosphere heavy and grey in a way that makes the city look both more ancient and more melancholy. "After the Rain - Ameagari" shows Karhu using weather to change the emotional register of his architectural subjects without changing their formal vocabulary. The wet surfaces introduce reflections and tonal depth that his dry-weather prints cannot achieve.
