Description
The sixth and final untitled woodblock print in this group from Kikumaro rounds out a sequence of works that stand on their visual merits alone. Without titles to differentiate them verbally, these prints must be distinguished by their imagery, palette, and compositional choices, which is perhaps the most honest way to encounter any visual artwork. Kikumaro's woodblock technique delivers each print with the accumulated knowledge of the medium's possibilities: the sharpness achievable with a well-honed carving tool, the color depth possible through multiple printings, and the paper's capacity to absorb and hold pigment in configurations that remain stable for decades.
