Description
A Mountain Path in Autumn brings together two of Fujita's most characteristic subjects — mountain terrain and the season of colored foliage — in a composition that uses the path as a structural device to organize the riot of autumn color around it. The diagonal thrust of the trail cuts through fiery maples and ginkgos, creating directional energy within what might otherwise be an overwhelmingly complex scene. This is one of Fujita's most representational approaches, maintaining the recognizable subject while still emphasizing formal abstraction.
