Description
Bunahayashi-Aki — Beech Forest Autumn — focuses on the beech (buna), a deciduous tree whose autumn foliage turns a warm copper-gold that differs from the more dramatic scarlet of maples. Beech forests (buna-rin) are characteristic of Japan's cool mountain zones, and their autumn transformation creates a more subtle, uniform color effect than the mixed woodland of popular autumn viewing spots. Fujita's sustained series of beech forest subjects demonstrates his interest in this quieter, less celebrated aspect of Japanese autumn color.
