Description
"Daichi" — earth — is an elemental subject that drew Kitaoka toward the most fundamental formal questions: How does one represent the ground itself, the surface of the world on which everything stands? This print approaches the earth as texture, color, and weight rather than scene, organizing the picture plane into horizontal strata of soil, rock, and perhaps sky. The title in katakana announces a conceptual rather than descriptive intention, earth not as setting but as subject.
