"Wind crest" (FUMON) translates as the pattern or crest that wind makes on a water surface or through grass — the ephemeral mark of an invisible force made momentarily visible. Kitaoka's geometric style is well suited to the paradox of rendering wind's effect: the repeating, wave-like patterns that wind imposes on water or vegetation become, in woodblock, a series of curved parallel forms that carry the feeling of movement and breath.
