Description
Boats moored at rest — their hulls reflected in still harbor water, their masts rising at slightly varying angles, the whole scene suspended in a moment of stillness between arrivals and departures — offered Kitaoka a subject that combined the geometry of constructed objects with the reflective depth of water. The harbor at rest has a particular quality of accumulated presence, each vessel carrying the history of its use, and Kitaoka captures this quality through careful attention to the varied textures and forms of the moored fleet.
