The Seven Gods of Good Fortune (Shichifukujin) are the seven deities of fortune who arrive on the Takarabune (treasure ship) on New Year's Day, bringing wealth, health, happiness, and longevity. The group includes Ebisu (commerce), Daikokuten (wealth), Bishamonten (warriors), Benzaiten (arts), Fukurokuju (wisdom), Jurojin (longevity), and Hotei (contentment) — a diverse assembly from Japanese, Chinese, and Indian origin that became one of the most beloved subjects of New Year's print and decorative art.
