Goyo completed only 14 woodblock print designs before his death in 1921, making every genuine impression extraordinarily rare. His bijin-ga are among the most refined of the entire shin-hanga movement. "Woman at the Bath" achieved $40,075 at Bonhams New York in 2020; Sotheby's estimates of $15,000–$25,000 are typical for top examples.
A woman in the act of applying makeup — one of the April 1918 works in which Goyo explored feminine cosmetic preparation before the more celebrated productions of 1920. The makeup process — the careful application of powder, rouge, and lip color — required concentration and skill, and Goyo was consistently attentive to the quality of absorption his subjects displayed in these self-directed moments. The April 1918 date suggests this was among his first serious engagements with the makeup subject.
