$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
Star Dust 1 (1964) incorporates mica into its ink and color on paper surface — the metallic particles creating an actual field of glittering points within the printed composition that literalized the cosmic metaphor of the title. The starfield was a natural subject for Hagiwara's abstract investigation of surface and depth: the individual star-points and the vast dark space between them were formal problems as much as astronomical observations. The mica's physical sparkle brought the celestial subject into direct material correspondence with the print's surface.
