Description
A bijin-ga composition depicting a young woman, the subject's youth distinguished from Hirano's mature bijin through lighter makeup conventions, a less elaborate coiffure, and potentially a more informal or playful kimono pattern. In the shin-hanga tradition, prints depicting younger female subjects often employ softer color palettes — pinks and pale blues rather than the deeper indigos and crimsons associated with mature elegance — and a correspondingly lighter touch in the rendering of facial features. The figure may be shown in a moment of natural, unguarded activity: catching a falling sleeve, looking toward an implied sound or movement, or pausing mid-step. Hirano's technical facility with the rendering of fine hair strands and the delicate transition of skin tone at the temples and neck would be fully employed in a subject of this type.
