Description
Pure Water (2001), a color woodcut by Hiroki Morinoue, is a horizontal composition divided into four abstract vertical panels. From left to right: a field of dark oval/circular cells on a burnt-orange ground; a deep blue panel with fine vertical striations and a single pointed, eye-shaped outline; a golden-yellow panel of overlapping circular ripple patterns; and a dark indigo panel filled with dense, wavy horizontal lines flecked with green. The print has no figures or setting, relying entirely on repeating geometric and organic patterns and a saturated palette of orange, blue, gold, and indigo.
