Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
A woodblock print depicting Imakumano, a neighborhood in eastern Kyoto closely associated with the Imakumano Kannon-ji temple complex. The area sits in the foothills of the Higashiyama mountains, surrounded by dense greenery and traversed by pilgrimage paths. Nakazawa captures the layered topography of this Kyoto hillside district, where temple rooftops emerge from forest canopy and stone paths wind between ancient trees. Imakumano holds particular significance as a stop on the Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage circuit, one of Japan's oldest and most important Buddhist pilgrimages, connecting thirty-three temples dedicated to the bodhisattva of compassion across western Japan.
