A woodblock print titled "Yanone II," edition four of twenty, referencing the kabuki play "Ya no Ne," or "The Arrow Sharpener," one of the classic Eighteen Famous Plays of the Ichikawa family. In the play, Soga no Goro sharpens an enormous arrowhead while dreaming of avenging his father's death. Takahashi Hiromitsu returns to the Soga brothers' saga with this image, the oversized yanone arrowhead serving as both weapon and symbol of unwavering resolve. The Roman numeral "II" indicates a second treatment of the subject, perhaps varying the angle, palette, or moment depicted.
