From the Eight Scenes of Cherry Blossoms series, which includes the record-breaking Kumoi Cherry Trees (only 50 impressions, sold $21,420 at Christie's 2024). Cherry blossom subjects carry a 50–80% premium over comparable Japanese landscapes, and series membership adds further collectible value. Arashiyama and the Hirosaki Castle compositions in this series attract particular interest.
Hanzakari — the moment of full bloom, when cherry trees are so saturated with blossom that the canopy becomes a continuous mass of white and pale pink — is the condition Yoshida captures in this 1935 print from the Eight Scenes of Cherry Trees series. An avenue of fully bloomed cherry trees transforms the surrounding space into something verging on the architectural: the canopy arches overhead, the trunks create a corridor, and the fallen petals begin to carpet the path below. Yoshida's treatment emphasizes the collective impact of the avenue rather than individual blooms, letting the massed color and light create the emotional effect. It is among the most celebratory of his cherry blossom compositions.
