A genre scene from Yoshida's India and Southeast Asia series (1930–1931), depicting street performers — one of his most distinctive subject choices in a body of work already exceptional for its range. India series prints command a 50–100% premium over typical Japanese landscapes, and figure-focused Indian subjects are among the rarest in his output.
This 1932 [oban](/glossary/oban) print — the same subject and year as the primary Snake Charmers (Hebizukai) composition — may represent an alternative color state, a pencil-signed proof impression, or a variant printing. The dual signatures "in pencil and in brush" indicate this is a presentation-quality impression, with the brush inscription in Japanese and the pencil signature in Western script, a convention Yoshida used to authenticate prints for Western collectors during his international commercial operation.
