Description
Takahama Port faces the Seto Inland Sea (Setonaikai) from Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku's northern coast, a region whose layered islands and protected waters were a recurring subject for Yoshida. The composition likely distributes small fishing boats or cargo vessels across the foreground water, with islands receding in atmospheric perspective toward the horizon — a format well suited to the shin-hanga treatment of marine light. The Inland Sea's characteristic soft haze and the play of light on calm water gave Yoshida opportunities for extended bokashi sequences across sky and sea blocks. The port's wooden quays and moored vessels would provide the key-block's architectural anchor within an expansive water-and-sky composition. The bilingual title (Japanese and romanized) in the slug reflects the print's likely publication with an international audience in mind.
