Description

This print depicts the Ukimido, a small hexagonal floating pavilion on Lake Biwa near Katata in Shiga Prefecture — one of the Omi Hakkei, the Eight Views of Omi. The evening moon (夕月) subject places the temple against a twilight sky reflected in the lake's still surface, creating a mirror composition that was a formal strength of Yoshida's nocturnal prints. Bokashi gradations in blue and grey describe the deepening sky, while the pavilion's wooden structure is rendered with careful keyblock line. This appears to be a variant impression of the same composition, possibly differing in color tonality or printing state from the companion entry.
