Description
"Volcanic Rocks B" (火山岩B) draws on one of Japan's most immediate geological realities — the country's volcanic landscape and the stark, darkly beautiful rock formations it produces. Tajima's rendering of volcanic rock moves between the sculptural specificity of actual stone and the abstract visual qualities of its forms: the dark mass against sky, the irregular texture of cooled lava, the sense of compressed energy now stilled. The Japanese title confirms the geological subject explicitly, anchoring the abstract form in literal stone.
