Description
A snow scene — its subject unspecified but within the tradition of shin-hanga winter landscapes that used bokashi gradation and white space to evoke the hush and visual simplification that snow brings to the world. Hodo's snow scenes may include figures, animals, garden subjects, or pure landscape, each approach to the winter subject requiring a different graphic solution for representing white-on-white differentiation. The print conveys the visual effect of snowfall or snow cover through Hodo's characteristic decorative refinement.
