The Imperial Palace in rain — the Kyoto Gosho (former imperial palace in central Kyoto) depicted in the atmospheric conditions of rainfall — creates a mood of refined melancholy appropriate to the palace's historical associations. The Kyoto Imperial Palace, with its extensive walls and gates set within a broad park, takes on a very different character in rain: the wooden structures darken, reflections form on the gravel paths, and the surrounding pines drip in a way that deepens the sense of historical weight.
