Description

A woman is shown in bust-length profile, facing right, her pale face and neck set against a muted grey-blue ground with a pale glowing disc in the upper right and dark, silhouetted flowering branches in the lower right. Her black hair is swept into an elaborate traditional updo bound with a white ribbon and a tan comb, and she wears an indigo kimono patterned with white bamboo-leaf-like lines over a mustard-and-blue striped obi, her lips painted red against pale skin. The artist's cursive signature and a red seal appear at upper left, with a Japanese title cartouche and columns of text above and to the left; per the accompanying record this is woodblock print No. 16, "Fireworks (1)," by Ito Shinsui, date unrecorded.
