Description
A 1947 woodblock in ink and color on paper — one of Sekino's most carefully documented portraits of the kabuki actor Nakamura Kichiemon I. The "ink and color on paper" medium specification distinguishes this from a pure woodblock print, suggesting a mixed-technique work in which hand-applied color supplements the printed matrix. Kichiemon's face, one of the most recognizable in prewar and early postwar Japanese culture, here receives Sekino's most meticulous attention.
