Description
The greenroom (gakuya) at a Bunraku theater — the backstage space where puppeteers prepare and rest between acts — appears here with the puppet manipulator Bungoro at its center. Sekino's backstage subjects humanize the theatrical world by showing it at rest: the formal costuming and controlled posture of performance replaced by the informal arrangements of professional preparation. The puppet, temporarily inert, hangs or sits nearby.
