Description
The primary limited edition impression of the Quiet Rain composition, this print carries edition designation marking it as part of a defined, controlled print run. As with other Kawano limited editions, the LE notation likely accompanied hand-signing and numbering, practices that aligned with both sosaku-hanga artistic values and the expectations of Western collectors. The Quiet Rain composition, with its female figure under rain, synthesizes the bijin-ga subject tradition with the atmospheric sensibility associated with Japanese landscape printing—applied here to a figure-focused, modernist composition. The hand-printed surface on washi retains the warmth and subtle texture characteristic of Kawano's technical approach.
