Fuji is seen from the vantage of Fujimigahara in Owari Province (modern Aichi Prefecture), where the mountain appears across a broad flat plain. This view was celebrated because from Fujimigahara, Fuji's cone appears symmetrically proportioned and unobstructed — a spot whose very name (miga-hara, "Fuji-viewing plain") announces its purpose as a dedicated viewing point.
