Hokusai's landscape prints beyond the Thirty-six Views span a remarkable range of viewpoints and weather conditions. Non-series landscape prints by Hokusai regularly appear in specialist Japanese print sales worldwide.
Mount Fuji seen from Mannenbashi bridge in Fukagawa, one of the eastern districts of Edo closest to the marshes and canals of the Low City. The viewpoint situates the sacred peak across water, framed by the wooden structure of the bridge, a compositional strategy Hokusai used throughout the Thirty-six Views series to anchor an abstract distance within an immediate, tangible foreground.
