Hokusai's illustrated books and albums span six decades and showcase the full range of his genius. Hokusai Manga (15 volumes, 1814–1878) original volumes sell for $2,000–$15,000 each; complete sets can reach $30,000–$80,000.
The Ehon Sumidagawa ryogan ichiran (Panoramic Views along the Banks of Sumida River) presents the Sumida River's entire course through Edo as a continuous visual survey, depicting neighborhoods, bridges, temples, and working waterfronts in a format that allowed the reader to trace the river's passage through the capital. Hokusai's contribution brings his characteristic graphic vigor to what is fundamentally a topographic record.
