From Hokusai's flagship series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (1830–32). Non-iconic designs from this series sold for $30,000–$37,800 at Christie's Mar 2024. A complete set of 46 prints holds the artist record at $3,559,000 (Christie's, Mar 2024).
Another impression of the Kanaya-no-Fuji subject from the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series, this print depicts the rope-and-porter crossing of the Oi River with Fuji visible upstream above the ford — one of the series' most vivid documents of the effort and contingency of pre-modern travel. The Tokaido designation in the title anchors the scene within the great highway's geography.
