Description

Five open Japanese paper umbrellas (wagasa) — purple, blue-and-purple, red, blue, and red-and-white — stand drying in a row against the slatted wooden facade of a building, propped along a stone step, with one additional blue umbrella hung upside down higher on the wall to the right. The house has a dark tile roof and grey lattice-and-plaster walls with a round wall lamp above a paneled door. The palette is muted greys and browns for the architecture set against the saturated indigo, violet, and red rings of the umbrellas. "After the Rain," a color woodcut by Katsuyuki Nishijima, 1986.
