Description
"Yatsudoki" — an old term for the two-hour period corresponding roughly to midnight to 2am, or in some usages a general term for a time of day — here serves as the title for a landscape subject that seems to render a specific quality of light associated with a particular hour. Nishijima's interest in temporal specificity — capturing not just a season but a specific time of day — manifests in several prints whose titles point to the hour as their primary atmospheric subject.
