YUKUKUMO (Floating Clouds)
Description
"Yukukumo" — floating clouds, clouds on the move — presents the sky as primary subject: the particular quality of clouds in active motion across a spring or autumn day, their shifting shadows transforming the landscape below. Nishijima renders the dynamic relationship between moving clouds and stable architecture with his characteristic sensitivity to light as the primary mediating element between sky and ground: the clouds' shadows race across rooftiles and wall surfaces, briefly darkening and then releasing each element as they pass.
