Description
A print depicting the South Lake (Nanko) — a famous scenic area, likely referring to a named body of water associated with the scenic destinations along the Tokaido or in the Kyoto-Osaka region — as part of Kyosai's landscape work beyond the supernatural and satirical subjects for which he is best known. Kyosai's landscapes demonstrate that his eye for the natural world was as acute as his eye for human comedy and supernatural fantasy: lake light, reflected sky, and water's edge vegetation rendered with the same mastery he brought to demons and warriors.
