Description
A third design from Hasui's Inuyama Children's Fair series, this print likely offers a different compositional angle on the Inuyama landscape or fair grounds than the other two variants. The 犬山こども博 (Inuyama Children's Expo) was a postwar cultural event, and prints issued for it served promotional and commemorative functions. Hasui's involvement indicates the fair's organizers sought the prestige of a designated holder of intangible cultural heritage — a distinction Hasui received in 1956. The print's color scheme may incorporate greens of the surrounding hills and the gray-white of Inuyama Castle's plastered keep against a spring or summer sky rendered in graduated bokashi.
