Description
A second composition of Iwakuni in Yamaguchi Prefecture, likely depicting the Kintaikyo bridge from a different vantage point or under altered atmospheric conditions compared to Hasui's other treatment of the subject. Hasui frequently revisited celebrated sites across multiple seasons and times of day, using the same location to explore contrasting qualities of light and weather. This variant may show the bridge under rain, moonlight, or winter snow — conditions that invited the full application of bokashi gradation across sky and water. The oban-format composition characteristic of the shin-hanga publisher Watanabe Shozaburo's output would have accommodated the horizontal sweep of the bridge and its riverine setting.
