Description

Inokashira no zansetsu (Lingering Snow at Inokashira) is one of twelve compositions in the Tōkyō jūnidai (Twelve Scenes of Tokyo) series published by Watanabe Shōzaburō, one of the foundational series in Hasui's collaboration with that publisher. The series documents twelve locations across Tokyo through changing seasons, with Inokashira representing a western suburban park known for its pond and Benzaiten shrine. The snow composition shows the pond in deep winter stillness, its surface reflecting pale sky through the tracery of bare branches. The oban format and Watanabe's quality printing standards — including fine bokashi gradations and careful pigment registration — make series impressions among the most technically refined of Hasui's output.
