Description
A second impression of Hasui's Mt Hodata composition, capturing the mountain in what may be a different seasonal or atmospheric state from the first. In shin-hanga printmaking, the same keyblock design was often reprinted across seasons, with the printer varying the dominant palette — cool blues and whites for winter, warm ochres for autumn — by substituting color blocks while the line block remained unchanged. If this impression differs from the first in its color register, it may represent a distinct seasonal variant rather than a simple reprint. The mountain landscape format allowed Hasui to focus on qualities of light and atmosphere rather than human narrative, a concern central to the shin-hanga program. The publisher's colophon and seal on the impression would identify the specific edition and printing date, situating this state within the design's production history.
