This Kinosaki Onsen composition from the Tabi miyage dai sanshu series presents a view of the resort town in Tajima (Hyogo Prefecture) that may differ from the companion print in season, time of day, or specific vantage point within the canal district. Hasui visited onsen towns throughout Japan and returned to particularly photogenic locations with multiple compositional studies, each isolating a different atmospheric moment—snowfall, mist, evening illumination, or morning calm. The Tajima region's mountain setting gives Kinosaki a confined, enclosed feeling distinct from coastal resorts, with forested hillsides visible above the rooftops. Color differentiation between this and its companion print may appear in the sky register or the rendering of the water surface, indicating separate printing occasions or deliberate palette variation.
