Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
Kofunecho-gashi — the embankment or quay of the Kofunecho district — appears in this print from an unidentified series documenting the waterways of Osaka or Tokyo. The word "gashi" (quayside) signals a site at the water's edge, and Kazuma's characteristic ability to render the relationship between built embankment and reflective water surface is fully engaged. The urban canal or river, with its warehouses and bridges reflected in the water below, was among the most productive subjects of his career.
