Description
A woodblock print by Kazuma Oda, likely depicting a Japanese coastal or river landscape in the [shin-hanga](/glossary/shin-hanga) manner. Oda's landscape subjects frequently included seaside villages, mountain-backed bays, and rivers bordered by terraced fields or forested slopes. The compositional approach shares characteristics with other Watanabe-published shin-hanga work: a clearly defined spatial recession, atmospheric gradation in sky and water, and a color palette weighted toward cool blues and greens with warmer accents in foliage or architectural elements. The print was likely produced in [oban](/glossary/oban) format on dampened [washi](/glossary/washi) paper, with the [baren](/glossary/baren)-applied pressure of the printer's block achieving the subtle tonal modulations that give shin-hanga landscapes their characteristic atmospheric quality. Oda's prints represent an important parallel strand of shin-hanga landscape production during the Taishō and early Shōwa periods alongside the better-documented work of Hasui and Hiroshi Yoshida.
