Description
Issued as the twenty-eighth iteration of the 'Light, Time, Silence' series, this stone lithograph belongs to Yamamoto's sustained body of work, in progress continuously since 1992. The recurring repertoire of motifs — a single chair, a staircase, a doorway, a corner of a panelled room — is treated each time in monochrome, the print constructed through fine crayon shading and tusche wash on a polished limestone matrix. The title functions as a guide to reading the print: each entry is offered as a held moment in which the named three terms — light, time, silence — meet on a domestic surface. Yamamoto's editions are typically small, befitting the labor-intensive nature of stone lithography and the series' reflective character. Within his output, which also includes 'The Sunshine Filtering through Foliage' and standalone studies of cloisters, staircases, and apple trees, the numbered states of 'Light, Time, Silence' function as the spine of his catalogue.
