Description
Second in the Sea Breeze sequence, where minor variations across the lettered prints suggest the same coastal subject reapproached at different times, distances, or weights of tone. The seriality recalls Yamamoto's approach in Light, Time, Silence, where successive iterations treat a recurring subject with shifting emphasis rather than wholly new compositions. Working in stone lithograph, the artist builds the impression of sky and water through layered drawing on the matrix, with the gradational quality of the medium standing in for both the diffusion of light over the sea and the soft transitions of horizon. Reads as a complement to the interior scenes — the same eye for tonal nuance turned outward, away from doorways and chairs and toward an open landscape that nonetheless retains the quietude of the artist's enclosed subjects.
