$500–$4,000. Common prints: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Sasajima's meditative prints appeal to collectors of both Japanese prints and modern art.
Dated 1959 in the Showa period, this woodblock print continues Sasajima's exploration of wind-disturbed woodland, this time focusing on a grove rather than a full forest. The distinction between grove and forest is one of scale and enclosure: a grove is a smaller, more contained grouping of trees, often with more open space between them, allowing the wind's effect on individual trunks and canopies to be observed more distinctly. The 1959 date places this print alongside "Wind in the Forest" from the same year, suggesting that Sasajima was systematically working through the wind-and-trees theme from multiple angles during this period. The grove setting may introduce more sky and open ground into the composition than the denser forest subjects, creating different opportunities for tonal contrast and spatial depth.
