Description

Kiyochika captures the Shinagawa coast bathed in moonlight, the harbor waters shimmering with reflected silver light in his signature kōsen-ga style. Boats rest at anchor in the middle distance while the luminous orb of the moon floats beyond the coastal headland, casting the entire scene in an otherworldly glow. Printed in 1884, this work demonstrates the artist's mastery of atmospheric effects drawn from his study of Western oil painting technique.
